Detroit Pistons guard Brandon Jennings sustained a torn Achilles tendon and will miss the rest of the season, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

After crumpling to the floor on a non-contact play in the third quarter of a loss to Milwaukee on Saturday night, Jennings returned to Detroit on Sunday for an MRI exam that revealed the torn left Achilles.

The recovery for the Achilles is expected to be six to eight months.

Jennings, 25, had been a crucial part of the Pistons revival this season and playing some of the best basketball of his career in recent weeks. The Pistons have won 13 of 16 games since late December.

Jennings has averaged 15.7 points and 6.7 assists for the Pistons this season.

Without Jennings, D.J. Augustin will assume a greater role in the Detroit backcourt, but the Pistons are studying their next move: Either a NBA Development League call-up for a 10-day contract, or a possible trade, sources said.
