John Brown

Scouting Report on John Brown

by Mike Farrell - 07/17/2006
Brown plays very low and uses excellent leverage, especially when handling double teams. He holds his ground well at the point of attack and is quick enough to split the double on occasion. He’s more of a bull rusher at this stage than anything else, although he uses a nice swim move as well. He needs to be a little more explosive off the ball, but he shows a solid initial burst in pursuit. He’s much more adept at run stopping than pass rushing at this stage. He’s too powerful for most at the high school level and his squat frame is a plus for his style of play. Brown uses his hands very well and doesn’t allow blockers to lock him up. His field vision could be improved as he tends to lose site of the runner at times, but much of that comes from the constant double teams. Brown would be excellent on the nose in a 3-4 or as a run stuffing tackle in a 4-3.
