Scouting Report on Jay Rome

by Barry Every - 06/02/2010
  • SpeedBlue Chip
  • SizeBlue Chip
  • StrengthBlue Chip
  • AgilityDivision I Player
  • VelocityBlue Chip
On the Hoof: Tall, angular body with very long limbs. He is built more like a power forward right now than a tight end. His lower body is more developed than his upper body at this time. Physically resembles 2009 Michigan State signee Dion Sims.
Needs Improvement: Needs to add some upper body size and strength to help make him become a more effective run blocker. Rome sometimes looses focus during a game and becomes a non-factor as a pass receiver.
Most Impressive: Has the ability to catch the ball with his hands and away from his body. Rome also is a threat once he turns the ball upfield. He won’t be easy to bring down because of his size. He possesses excellent body control for a big target and could become a quarterback’s best friend.
Conclusion: Rome could become a complete tight end that not only is effective in the run game, but also in the passing game. It is going to be hard for any school to keep this jumbo athlete off the field early. Expect him to eventually become an all-conference performer.
