Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield was arrested early Saturday morning and faces a number of charges , including public intoxication and fleeing the scene. The fleeing the scene charge has drawn the most attention because, according to the arresting officer’s report, Mayfield tried to run and was chased down from behind by the police. Meaning the police play better defense than just about everybody else in the Big 12. Anyway, while I crack jokes here, plenty of others had fun with Mayfield’s arrest on the internet as well, including former Oklahoma coach Barry Switzer, who jumped in the fray by retweeting a doctored photo he saw. Yes, it’s funny, but I have to say I’m worried about Barry’s memory.
During a tremendously stacked weekend in which the Texas Longhorns hosted upwards of 90 prospects for junior days, four-star Ridge Point tight end Mustapha Muhammad was among the very best in attendance. A key target at a key position, the Houston-area prospect was a surprise visitor, and a significant one as Tom Herman was able to get Muhammad on campus for the first time during his tenure. The visit came after Muhammad unofficially visited Oklahoma State earlier this month and Clemson in late January. “I enjoyed myself at all 3 schools,” Muhammad told Burnt Orange Nation. “They were all really good visits that I don't regret taking.” While on the Forty Acres, Muhammad said he was able to talk
The MMQB's Emily Kaplan takes a look at what to watch out for during the 2017 NFL Combine. Never been a big combine fan. I’ve always felt it (in part) bastardizes the draft class by getting fans and some scouts and coaches all heated up when some average college player runs fast and jumps high in Indianapolis, and pushes that so-so player up the draft board. Gratuitously. Stephen Hill. 2012. Georgia Tech receiver. Caught 49 passes in his college career. Big guy: 6-4, 215. Ran a 4.30 and 4.31 in the 40-yard dash at Indy. Much frothing over Hill around Lucas Oil Stadium. Jets traded second-, fifth- and seventh-round picks to move up to take Hill in the second round. Hill caught 45 NFL passes, total.
