What was one of the most promising starts in recent school history hit a bump in the road for Mike Sanford's Rebels (3-3) heading into a bye week. The Rebels, who started a surprising 3-1 with back-to-back overtime wins at Arizona State and against Iowa State, stumbled after that with losses to in-state rival Nevada and at Colorado State. The latter was the team's 17th consecutive Mountain West Conference road loss, breaking a school record. No doubt the bye came at a good time for the Rebels, who looked like a tired football team, especially on defense, during the last two weeks when they surrendered a combined 1,190 yards and 90 points.
