North Dakota State has won five straight FCS championships, so it’s going to take some extra effort from South Dakota State to knock the Bison off. Perhaps that was in the back of Jackrabbits’ coaches’ minds when the offense pulled off this incredible trick play on a first-and-goal early in their playoff game: Wow. From another angle in GIF form: That is some sneaky stuff right there. They basically hid a short runner who knelt behind the line, quietly waited a few seconds after the snap and let him run as the defense bit on the fake quarterback run the other way. See? I told you FCS football is awesome.
We knew this was going to be a long year for Tom Izzo and Michigan State. That’s what happens when he has a young team playing an insane schedule with point guard question marks and injuries all over the front line. So it’s not surprising that he would be frustrated. On Saturday, in a game against Tennessee Tech, Tom Izzo made his was to the end of the Michigan State bench because his team forgot how to make free throws: At the time, the Spartans were just 10-for-22 from the line.
Late last month, leading rusher Marcus Marshall become one of a trio of Georgia Tech football players who have announced their decisions to transfer since the end of the regular season. Thursday, that trio became a quartet. On his personal Twitter account last night, Christian Philpott (pictured, No. 82) announced that he will be transferring from the Yellow Jackets in January. The wide receiver said he came to the decision after talks with family and friends, although he didn’t detail precisely why he was leaving the football program. If Philpott decides another FBS program will be his next collegiate stop, he’d have to sit out the 2017 season to satisfy NCAA transfer bylaws.
