When Buffalo wrapped up spring football practice with its annual scrimmage, the Bulls were hoping their month-long session helped plug some holes, including the ones at linebacker. It didn't happen.

"We're still searching at linebacker," said Buffalo coach Turner Gill. "It's wide open. I can't sit here today and say these guys are going to be starting."

Linebacker is pivotal to the Bulls' 4-3 scheme, and that is also where Buffalo has had to fill spaces. A year ago, Gill finished his second spring practice confident he had found a group of linebackers who could form the foundation of his defense. But injuries forced defensive coordinator Jimmy Williams to move safeties Kareem Byrom and Josh Copeland to linebacker.
