When he was hired last March to replace Steve McClain, Wyoming head coach Heath Schroyer promised to open the throttle on offense.

"I think it's a mistake at this level not to play fast at 7,200 feet," he said.

The 2007-08 Cowboys did play fast—and loose. They were third in the Mountain West in scoring in conference play, but they also committed a league-worst 17.2 turnovers per game. They turned the ball over 134 more times than their opponents (517-383) and had 20-plus turnovers eight times.

Picked sixth in the Mountain West preseason poll, Wyoming finished eighth and ended with a loss to No. 9 seed Colorado State in the conference tournament play-in game. The Cowboys turned the ball over 19 times as the Rams snapped a 17-game losing streak.
