It wasn't the season expected, but at least Virginia escaped the ignominy of falling from first place in the ACC to last place in consecutive years.

The Cavaliers also managed to log a winning record by winning two of their three games in the College Basketball Invitational, a third tournament that was added to this postseason.

Nobody knows better than third-year coach Dave Leitao, however, that such evaluations are pretty faint praise.

Citing the team's final record after the CBI loss to Bradley, Leitao noted that "with 17 really good nights and 16 very bad nights, you realize there is a lot you have to do to make this program better."
