Edmond Sumner is a big reason why Xavier is likely going to be a preseason top-10 team. On Saturday night, during Musketeer Madness, Sumner won the team’s dunk contest when he took off from the foul line. Sumner defeated freshmen Tyrique Jones and Quentin Goodin. J.P. Macura, the reigning Big East Sixth Man of the Year, took home the honors last year. The 6-foot-6 redshirt sophomore is coming off a debut season in which he averaged 11.0 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game.
Sheldon Jeter practically did a spit take when Pittsburgh hired Kevin Stallings to replace Jamie Dixon last spring. ''I was shocked, as I imagine most people were,'' said the senior forward, who played under Stallings for one season at Vanderbilt before eventually making his way to the Panthers. When Jeter's teammates asked him for a read on Stallings while they pondered whether to leave or not, Jeter offered some salient advice.
As great as the Golden State Warriors were in 2015, last season’s group was beyond special, as they finished the regular season with a now-record 73 wins. Unfortunately, despite holding a 3-1 lead in the 2016 NBA Finals, the Dubs decided to “poke the bear,” ultimately turning LeBron James into the Terminator, hell-bent on pulling off the impossible — which he did by helping the Cavs become the first team in history to overcome this kind of deficit in the Finals. This just goes to show that in the National Basketball Association, it’s now how you start, it’s how you finish.
