On the Hoof: McFarland has a massive upper body, while his lower body is leaner and not as developed.
Needs Improvement: Most of his route-running has been at receiver, not tight end. He will need to work on blocking and getting off the line of scrimmage against linebackers. He does not have the speed or overall athleticism to be a possession receiver so it is imperative for him to become a traditional tight end.
Most Impressive: For a big target he has very soft hands and excellent upper-body control. He is not afraid to use his long arms and muscular upper body to create space.
Conclusion: Special teams is where he will get his opportunity to earn more playing time. He has the size to see early playing time. His body type and hands are a rare combination.
