Scouting Report on Ethan Hutson

by Barton Simmons - 08/09/2010

  • AgilityBlue Chip
  • Foot QuicknessBlue Chip
On the Hoof: Has a huge barrel chest with thick arms and a wide power base. Has a physique similar to Oklahoma freshman Bronson Irwin.
Needs Improvement: Needs not to give up so much ground while pass protecting. Hutson could add more muscle mass while reducing bad body weight. Also being consistent with hand placement will only improve his ability as a blocker.
Most Impressive: Has excellent hip and knee bend which really is imperative to winning the leverage battle. Also has the versatile body that could allow him to play four of the five offensive line positions. Hutson is the son of a college coach and an excellent student which should make the transition from high school to college much easier.
Conclusion: Most linemen redshirt and rightfully so. That being said, a combination of depth chart, his versatility and football IQ could improve his chances of early playing time.
