Scouting Report on Dwight Jonesby Mike Farrell - 06/19/2006
Jones has tremendous size and plays very physical. He uses his big frame to fend off defenders and wins most jump ball battles, using excellent positioning and leverage. He has good not great speed but he takes advantage of bump-and-run coverage as he’s quick off the line and uses his hands well. Jones has good leaping ability and is the perfect receiver for an end zone fade. Jones is adept at making catches across the middle and will be a chain-mover in college. He’s not afraid of contact and is difficult to bring down and gains extra yardage with a surprising burst after catching the ball. Jones is a terrific athlete who hits top speed quickly and has surprising flexibility. He’s a solid route runner and is elusive for a big man, especially when hit in stride. His strong hands and ability to adjust to the ball will allow quarterbacks to have confidence to put the ball in specific spots when throwing his way.
