Scouting Report on Christian Ballardby Mike Farrell - 06/20/2006
Ballard is a huge tight end who projects as an offensive guard or offensive/defensive tackle in college. His athletic ability is rare for a big player and he’s shifty in the open field. He has quick feet which translates well to whatever position he ends up playing and he has very strong hands. On offense he uses his huge frame to shield defenders and has surprising quickness. He’s a solid blocker who engages well. On defense, he’s quick off the ball and often plays standing up, showcases his lateral quickness. He doesn’t have an array of pass rushing moves as he prefers to use his power to get to the quarterback, but he has the agility and speed to get upfield quickly. It might be tempting for a team to keep Ballard as a tight end with his bulk and quickness, but he’ll likely outgrow the position quickly.
