The win earned the Chippewas (6-6, 4-4) bowl eligibility for the first time since 2009-10.
Tipton ran for 185 yards and four touchdowns on 25 carries. The junior finished the season with 20 touchdowns—19 on the ground—tying him with Dan LeFevour’s 2007 marks for the second highest single-season output in each category in the program’s history. Tipton finished the season with 1,391 yards, the seventh best single-season mark at the school.
The 100-yard game was Tipton’s sixth straight.
Rob Blanchflower had 10 catches for 100 yards and a touchdown for UMass (1-11, 1-7).
