BOONE, N.C. (AP)—Steven Miller ran for 170 yards and a touchdown as Appalachian State topped Furman 33-28 Saturday to clinch a share of its seventh Southern Conference championship in the last eight years.
The conference title is the Mountaineers’ 12th, tying Furman’s mark for the most in league history.
Furman (3-7, 2-5) took a 28-27 lead in the third quarter when Carl Rider returned an Appalachian State fumble 27 yards for a touchdown.
Sam Martin put the Mountaineers back on top and clinched the win with consecutive field goals of 19 and 32 yards.
Jamal Jackson was 32-of-46 passing for 332 yards, becoming the fourth quarterback in program history to collect 300-plus yards in consecutive games.
