SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP)—Eric Breitenstein carried 18 times for 160 yards, helping Wofford amass 590 rushing yards in a 49-20 victory over Western Carolina in a Southern Conference opener Saturday night.
After a 7-7 first quarter, the Terriers (2-0) dominated the rest of the half, taking a 35-7 lead after rushing touchdowns on their next four possessions, including 54- and 73-yard runs by Michael Weimer.
Weimer finished with 141 yards on six carries, and Donovan Johnson had 126 yards on 13 carries and a third-quarter score as Wofford threw just three passes.
The only first-half score for the Catamounts (1-2) came on a defensive play. John McBeth sacked Wofford quarterback Brian Kass and forced a fumble, which Eric Banford returned 10 yards for a touchdown.
Wofford has won seven straight against Western Carolina, which has lost 15 straight Southern Conference games.
Western Carolina’s Eddie Sullivan completed 28 of 37 passes for 302 yards.
