Grambling picks off win at Pine Bluff 27-20Saturday, Oct 29, 2011
PINE BLUFF, Ark. (AP)—Frank Rivers tossed a pair of touchdown passes to Damian Jefferson and Edward Patterson returned an interception 26 yards for a touchdown with 2:25 to play Saturday, helping Grambling State to a 27-20 victory at Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
The second of the Rivers-Jefferson connections went for 38 yards and gave the Tigers (4-4, 3-3 SWAC) a 21-17 lead with 25 seconds left in the first half. Jefferson caught six passes for 108 yards, accounting for most of Rivers’ 140 yards passing.
The Golden Lions (4-4, 3-3) built a quick 14-0 lead on Benjamin Anderson’s touchdown passes of 44 yards to Howard Mareo and 48 yards to Jevon Dixon. But Arkansas-Pine Bluff was held to two field goals after that, and Anderson’s late pass was picked off by Patterson, extending the Tigers’ one-point lead to seven. The Golden Lions drove to the Grambling 17 before turning the ball over on downs.
