Old Dominion pulls away from Massachusetts 48-33

RICHMOND, Va. (AP)—Old Dominion scored 25 unanswered points in the second half beat Massachusetts 48-33 on Saturday night.

Tyler Heinicke, playing the second half for injured starter Thomas DeMarco, completed 8 of 11 passed for 119 yards and two touchdowns during the comeback. The rally began when Jakwail Bailey blocked a UMass punt that bounced out of the end zone for a safety, giving the Monarchs a 27-26 lead with 2:39 to play in the third quarter. It was the fifth blocked kick of the season for the Monarchs (4-1, 1-1 Colonial Athletic Association).

Heinicke’s two touchdown passes followed as the lead grew to 41-26 with 6:33 remaining.

DeMarco passed for 219 yards and three touchdowns before being sidelined with an injury before halftime.

Old Dominion has scored at least 40 points in all of its wins this season.

Kellen Pagel passed for 245 yards and three scores for UMass (2-2, 1-1).
