MOREHEAD, Ky. (AP)—Brandon White caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Mason Mills with 17 seconds to go to give San Diego a 48-44 win over Morehead State on Saturday in the Pioneer Football League opener for both teams.
The Toreros trailed by as many as 17, and 44-41 with 1:50 to play.
Mills finished with five touchdown passes, 312 yards and an interception on 19 of 31 passing to lead the Toreros (3-1), who improved to 7-0 against the Eagles (1-3). John McGough and Sam Hoekstra caught two touchdown passes each, with McGough finishing with 162 yards on six catches and Hoekstra 114 yards on nine.
Kenny James provided the balance for San Diego’s offense with 138 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries.
Zach Lewis led the Eagles with 298 yards and a touchdown on 28 of 42 passes, but was sacked four times for a total loss of 25 yards.
