VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP)—Brian McNally forced a fumble in the final minute to prevent the tying score as New Hampshire held on to defeat Villanova 31-24 on Saturday in Colonial Athletic Association play.
Villanova trailed 31-24 with 1:13 left and marched 75 yards before quarterback Chris Whitney was sacked and fumbled on second-and-goal from the New Hampshire 5-yard line. Cody Muller recovered the ball for New Hampshire to seal the victory.
New Hampshire (6-4, 4-3) took a 31-17 lead with 5:08 remaining in the third quarter on a 6-yard touchdown pass from R.J. Toman to Terrance Fox.
Whitney scored on a 2-yard run early in the fourth to pull the Wildcats (6-4, 4-3) to within seven points, 31-24.
Dontra Peters rushed 12 times for 157 yards, including a 51-yard touchdown in the opening quarter.
