Alabama State wins on late TD run
LORMAN, Miss. (AP)—Rahmod Traylor scored on a 15-yard run with 19 seconds left in the fourth quarter to lift Alabama State to a 24-17 win over Alcorn State on Saturday.
The Hornets (2-6, 2-3 Southwestern Athletic Conference) took a 17-3 lead in the second quarter on Traylor’s 9-yard touchdown run. Traylor, who rushed for 110 yards on 21 carries, also had a 20-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.
Alcorn State (2-8, 1-4) answered with two touchdowns as Davaris Pilcher scored on a 9-yard run in the third quarter and added a 1-yard touchdown run with 1:56 remaining in the fourth to tie the game at 17-17. Pilcher finished with 71 yards rushing on 13 carries for the Braves.
But Alabama State used a five-play, 64-yard drive, capped by Traylor’s game-winning touchdown run, to lift the Hornets toward the victory.
Anthony Speight completed 23 of 32 passes for 177 yards for Alabama State.
Alcorn State’s Tim Buckley threw for 183 yards.
