Texas Southern knocks off Alcorn St. 30-29

LORMAN, Miss. (AP)—Marcus Wright’s 7-yard touchdown run with 6:13 left gave Texas Southern the lead for good, and the Tigers beat Alcorn State 30-29 on Saturday.

It was the first Southwestern Athletic Conference victory since 2006 for Texas Southern (4-5, 1-3 SWAC).

Tim Buckley threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Davaris Pilcher with 14:53 left to give Alcorn State (2-7, 1-3 SWAC) a 24-20 lead. Pilcher finished with 93 yards on 22 carries.

The teams traded field goals to make the score 27-23 with 11 minutes left, setting the stage for Texas Southern’s game-winning drive.

The Braves scored on a safety with 17 seconds left.

After the kickoff, they moved into position for a game-winning field goal, but Taylor Richardson’s 47-yard field goal attempt was wide left as time expired.

Bobby Reid completed 15 of 21 passes for 151 yards with one touchdown for Texas Southern.

Buckley was 19 of 27 for 173 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.
