E Illinois beats SE Missouri 24-21
CHARLESTON, Ill. (AP)—Freshman running back Desmin Ward ran for three touchdowns to lead Eastern Illinois to a 24-21 win over Southeast Missouri State on Saturday.
Ward put Eastern Illinois (3-4, 1-2 Ohio Valley Conference) on the board with a touchdown off a 3-yard run in the first period.
Southeast Missouri (2-5, 0-3 Ohio Valley Conference) answered with a touchdown from off a 10-yard run from Henry Harris to tie the game. Ward came back to run 4 yards for a touchdown to make it 14-7 Panthers.
But Timmy Holloman evened the game at 14-14 going into the break with a touchdown from a 6-yard run.
Ward came back in the third period to run 1 yard for a touchdown making the score 21-14. Tyler Wilke followed with a 40-yard field goal in the fourth period to put the score at 24-13.
The Redhawks did mount a comeback with another touchdown from Holloman to make the final 21-24. Holloman led Southeast Missouri with 84 yards.
Travorus Bess led Eastern Illinois in rushing with 124 yards. Eastern Illinois quarterback Bodie Reeder had 76 yards but was sacked twice.
Southeast Missouri played a pair of quarterbacks, Matt Scheible and Houston Lillard, combined for 64 yards.
