LEXINGTON, Va. (AP)—Tim Maypray ran for 155 yards yards on 22 carries and accounted for two touchdowns to lead Virginia Military Institute to a 47-20 victory over Coastal Carolina on Saturday.
Maypray had a 19-yard touchdown pass to Michael Rainey-Wiles, rushed for a 4-yard score and also had 59 yards receiving on three catches for the Keydets (3-3, 1-0 Big South Conference). Kyle Hughes, who completed 8 of 12 passes for 191 yards, added two touchdowns passes and one interception.

Brandon Autry’s 31-yard fumble recovery score put the Chanticleers (3-4, 0-2) ahead 14-7 at the close of the first.
After Greg Stevens’ 24-yard field goal pulled VMI within four points at the start of the second, Marquel Willis and Zach MacDowall hooked up on a 5-yard touchdown pass to put Coastal Carolina ahead 20-10.
But VMI scored 37 unanswered points the rest of the way, sparked by Juan Thrasher’s score on a PAT return and Jones’ 5-yard touchdown in the second quarter.
The Keydets would continue the scoring run in the second half as Kyle Hughes hit Zack Collins on a 90-yard touchdown pass and Rainey-Wiles on a 21-yard score.
