Villanova beats William & Mary 38-28
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP)—Christopher Whitney scored four touchdowns and accounted for 246 total yards to help Villanova hold off William & Mary 38-28 on Saturday.
Whitney completed 20 of 27 passes for 186 yards and a career-high three touchdowns. He also had 19 carries for 60 yards and a score for the Wildcats (4-1, 2-0 Colonial Athletic Association).
Aaron Ball added 139 rushing yards and a touchdown on 22 carries in the win.
R.J. Archer completed 21 of 37 passes for 307 yards with a touchdown and an interception, while adding 10 rushing yards and two scores for the Tribe (2-2, 0-1).
Whitney had a 5-yard touchdown pass to Stephen Pimm in the first quarter.
The Villanova quarterback added a 15-yard touchdown pass to Lawrence Doss and an 11-yard scoring connection to Matthew Szczur, along with a 1-yard touchdown run, that made it 35-7 at the half.
The Tribe would fight back with Archer’s 44-yard passing score to Elliott Mack to make it 35-14 in the third. Archer scored twice more on touchdown runs of 3 and 6 yards in the fourth, but it would not be enough to catch the Wildcats.
