Coastal Carolina eases past Towson 31-3
CONWAY, S.C. (AP)—Zach MacDowall accounted for 201 yards and three touchdowns to lead Coastal Carolina to a 31-3 victory over Towson on Saturday night.
MacDowall completed 9-of-18 passes for 157 yards with two touchdowns, and also rushed for 44 yards and a score on eight carries for the Chanticleers (2-2). Brandon Whitley caught three passes for 91 yards and a score, and Eric O’Neal added 84 yards and one touchdown on nine carries.
Sean Schaefer was 20 of 36 for 142 yards for the Tigers (1-3).
The Chanticleers outgained the Tigers 459-186.
Mark Bencivengo kicked a 25-yard field goal with 7:21 to go in the first quarter to give Towson its only lead of the game. It was erased by MacDowall’s 9-yard touchdown run that gave Coastal Carolina a 7-3 halftime lead.
Coastal Carolina rattled off 24 consecutive points to put the game out of reach, including MacDowall’s touchdown passes of 63 and 19 yards.
O’Neal capped the scoring with a 49-yard run with 4:47 to go in the fourth quarter.
