INT seals N. Arizona’s 19-14 win at S. Utah

CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP)—K.J. Gerard intercepted a pass in the end zone with 23 seconds remaining to seal Northern Arizona’s 19-14 win over Southern Utah on Saturday night.

Gerard outleaped Tysson Poots on a 6-yard pass from Cody Stone after Southern Utah drove 84 yards in the final two minutes.

Northern Arizona (2-1) held Southern Utah (1-3) to minus-26 yards rushing on 13 carries.

Stone completed 17 of 48 passes for 304 yards.

Lance Kriesien gave the Lumberjacks the lead when he escaped a sack and scored on an 8-yard touchdown run with 5:24 left in the game. Southern Utah had gone up 14-13 early in the fourth on a 5-yard touchdown from Stone to Jared Ursa.

Kriesien, who played running back before subbing for Michael Herrick at quarterback, finished with 75 yards rushing. Southern Utah had 13 carries for minus-26 yards.
