PRINCETON, N.J. (AP)—Kevin Beverly had three short touchdown runs and Van Morgan added two scores as Hampton routed Princeton 48-27 on Saturday.

Trailing 27-14 at halftime, the Pirates (4-1) scored 34 unanswered points with a rally that began when Charles Robinson returned an interception 80 yards in the third quarter.

After the teams traded possessions, Princeton (2-2) drove to the Pirates 1-yard line early in the fourth quarter. But the Hampton defense held, and its offense then went 96 yards in 15 plays, a drive that culminated with Morgan’s 1-yard run.

Princeton’s Matt Murphy blocked the extra point attempt to keep the score at 27-27, but Hampton took the lead for good when Beverly ran in from a yard out with 4:31 left. The Pirates then got the ball right back on a Sam Pope interception, and they took a 41-27 lead when Beverly scored on a 1-yard run.

Pope then picked off another pass and ran it back 65 yards for the final score.

Hampton had taken an early 7-0 lead on Morgan’s 2-yard run, but Princeton tied it on a juggling 19-yard touchdown catch by Jake Staser.

Hampton regained the lead when Beverly scored from three yards out late in the first quarter, but Princeton scored 20 unanswered points on touchdown runs of 7 and 8 yards by quarterback Bill Foran and field goals of 21 and 36 yards by Connor Louden.
