Pittsburgh 41, Rutgers 17

PITTSBURGH (AP)—Tyler Palko threw for three touchdowns, and Josh Lay returned an interception 82 yards for another score as Pittsburgh beat Rutgers 41-17 Saturday.

The Panthers (5-2, 3-1 Big East) have won three straight games, and six in a row over Rutgers.

Rutgers (4-3, 1-2) was trying for its first three-game winning streak since 1992.

Pittsburgh took a 7-0 lead when Joe DelSardo capped the Panthers’ first drive with a one-handed, diving catch of Palko’s 18-yard pass. Rutgers came back with a field goal before Tyrone Gilliard’s interception led to another Pitt touchdown drive.

Palko, who was 27-for-43 for 318 yards, found DelSardo with a 17-yard scoring pass to make it 14-3 lead. He then connected with Greg Lee for 31 yards, setting Raymond Kirkley’s 1-yard touchdown run on the first series of the second quarter.

Lay intercepted a fourth-down pass intended for Marcus Daniels and ran through four tackle attempts on his way to the end zone. Josh Cummings kicked a 47-yard field goal, and Eric Gill caught a 6-yard pass from Palko for a 38-3 Panthers lead at halftime.

Rutgers quarterback Ryan Hart led a 92-yard touchdown drive in the third quarter and connected with Tres Moses on a 13-yard touchdown pass. Brian Leonard scored from 1 yard after a pass to Clark Harris gained 59 yards.

Hart completed 31 of 57 passes, but threw four interceptions.
