News Flash: Gators look at Harbison

Clemson co-defensive coordinator/defensive back coach Charlie Harbison has emerged as a candidate to be Florida’s defensive coordinator, Rivals.com has learned.

Harbison was defensive coordinator at Mississippi State in 2008. He also has been an assistant at Alabama, LSU, UTEP and Gardner-Webb.

Florida is looking to replace George Edwards, who took the defensive coordinator job with the Buffalo Bills after being in Gainesville for only a few days. Edwards had replaced Charlie Strong, who left to become head coach at Louisville.


Houston promotes Phillips

Houston has promoted receivers coach Jason Phillips to offensive coordinator.

Phillips replaces Dana Holgorsen, who left to become offensive coordinator at Oklahoma State. Cougars coach Kevin Sumlin also promoted quarterbacks coach Kliff Kingsbury to co-coordinator.


MTSU, Palermo talk

Middle Tennessee State coach Rick Stockstill is talking to John Palermo about becoming the Blue Raiders defensive coordinator.

Stockstill is looking to replace Manny Diaz, who left to become defensive coordinator at Mississippi State.

Palermo spent the past two seasons as defensive line coach with the Washington Redskins. He spent 30 years in the college ranks before that. Palermo has coached at Tennessee Tech, Miami (Fla.), Wisconsin, Austin Peay, Notre Dame, Minnesota, N.C. State, Appalachian State and Memphis.


Bowen to WKU

Clint Bowen has accepted the defensive coordinator job at Western Kentucky.

Bowen spent the past nine years coaching at his alma mater, Kansas. He was defensive coordinator the past two years. Bowen was co-coordinator two years before that.
