Incarnate Word was playing its first-ever game of Division I football. It was quite the welcome from Central Arkansas’ Bears, who have reached the FCS playoffs the previous two seasons. Blake Veasley scored the game’s first two touchdowns—rushing from 11 and 18 yards—three minutes apart. Danzel Williams also scored two TDs for the Bears (1-0), who scored at least twice in every quarter and piled up 523 yards of total offense.

Incarnate Word, a San Antonio school that didn’t begin playing football until 2009, scored on Trent Brittain’s 38-yard run with four minutes remaining.
