Marian beats Valparaiso 13-10

VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP)—William Stubbs rushed for 136 yards and scored a touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter to lift Marian to a 13-10 victory over Valparaiso on Saturday.

The Knights (3-1) trailed 10-0 at halftime but shut out the Crusaders (1-2) in the final two periods.

Matt Rogers passed 17 yards to JaQuan Patilla for Marian’s first score midway through the third quarter, then the Knights started their go-ahead drive late in that period after a Valparaiso punt and a penalty for interference on the fair catch gave them the ball at the Crusaders’ 43.

Marian moved 57 yards in eight plays, with Stubbs scoring from the 2 on the first play of the final period.

Valparaiso’s scoring came on a 21-yard field goal by David Hamaker in the first quarter and a 2-yard run by Jake Riedel with 13 seconds left in the second period.

The Crusaders’ final chance ended when a pass by Warren Arnold was intercepted by Dustin Craig at the Marian 28 with 1:36 remaining. Craig returned the ball 13 yards to the 41, and the Knights ran out the clock for the victory.
