Not content with having produced the most awkward postgame moment in BCS history by botching Ian Johnson's marriage proposal in 2007, Chris Myers brought four years of hamfisted BCS coverage on Fox to a close Tuesday night on a note of staggering condescension when he asked victorious Iowa quarterback Ricky Stanzi if the Hawkeyes' Orange Bowl win over Georgia Tech represented not just Iowa or the Big Ten, but "an entire group of American citizens" from "middle America." Faced with a dumb question, Stanzi responded in the only appropriate manner by breaking into an impromptu Lee Greenwood song:
I was waiting for Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson to storm the stage, hit Stanzi in the back with a chair and begin lustily waving an Iranian flag to a chorus of boos. If you're looking to go out with a nod to a stereotype of middle America, Fox, that is the way it's done.
