Bill, aka ATL_eagle, isn't too thrilled with BC's search process, which took nearly a week to rush in a couple outside candidates and left another (newly promoted Florida offensive coordinator Steve Addazio) hanging as he recovers from some kind of knee infection, all to promote a 61-year-old the Eagles could have named in the same breath that they finally fired Jeff Jagodzinski for his wand'rin' eyes last week. But Spaziani was the name at the top of the list before Jags was officially cut loose, and the 12-year BC staffer fits the bill in a couple key ways, per the Globe:
"I really want someone who wants to be at BC and will be here for the length of his contract,'' said [athletic director Gene] DeFilippo in explaining the parameters of his search. ... No one fits those criteria better than Spaziani, who has been at The Heights since 1997 and has been the Eagles' defensive coordinator since 1999.
In his interview Thursday, Spaziano emphasized his passion for the Eagles, as well as and intention of remaining at BC as long as he was wanted. ... Although no financial terms were revealed -- they are being worked out this afternoon --sources close to the program said Spaziani's deal should be in the range of what has become almost the minimum for BCS schools -- a five-year deal with approximately $1 million in total compensation annually.
Spaz has been around, he's going to be around, his defenses have been consistently strong -- draft-spurning linebacker Mark Herzlich is in his corner -- and he doesn't cost an arm and a leg. He's got a real "Guido Tom Selleck" thing going, too. I suppose you could do worse on such short notice.
