Seeing as nearly unprecedented preseason expectations have made Ole Miss fans a little jittery about the upcoming season, it seems karma has decided to string them along a bit:

Two of Mississippi's top players, defensive end Greg Hardy and running back Dexter McCluster, were involved in a car accident over the weekend, coach Houston Nutt said Monday.

According to Nutt, another driver pulled out in front of the vehicle Hardy was driving and made contact with the front right tire, pushing it into the engine. Nutt said the vehicle caught fire but the players escaped serious injury.

You can come down off the ceiling now, Rebel fans.

Pay no attention to the picture, for the record: Hardy and McCluster were riding in style in an Escalade, according to a Memphis TV station, which exonerates the pair in its own style:

No one was injured in the accident and there is no indication that alcohol played a roll in the wreck.

No word on the possible "roll" played by text messaging.
