Dr. Saturday - NCAAF

Tremendous slate of games today, so good at the top that a lot of other interesting match-ups and storylines -- undefeated Texas Tech as a small road underdog at Kansas, USC visiting rising Arizona, the Third Saturday showdown in upset-ready (and desperate) Tennessee, Houston Nutt sneaking back into Arkansas -- are having a hard time registering with the potentially season-defining tilts in Austin, Baton Rouge and Columbus. This is the point of no return for the mythical championship derby: LSU in last year's topsy-turvy cauldron notwithstanding, it's hard to climb back from a loss this late in the season. The Georgia-LSU winner keeps the dream alive; wins by Texas, Penn State and Alabama officially throws the switch on the countdown to delicious BCS chaos; and even if Kirk Herbstreit is right about Ohio State's national hopes -- they disappeared in Los Angeles in September and can't be retrieved -- the Buckeyes are aiming true for the Rose Bowl.

So savor this one. The template for the stretch run should be set by the end of the day. Unless Oklahoma State upsets Texas to go to 8-0. Then God help us all.
