BALTIMORE (AP)—Sterling Smith had 22 points, Taariq Cephas added 19 and Coppin State held a 30-point lead with only 3:09 remaining in a Monday night victory over Ohio Valley 96-79.
Smith and Cephas both made two 3-pointers and Jerimyjah Batts had nine points and nine rebounds for the Eagles (2-2). Coppin State outscored Ohio Valley in the paint 40-18.
Daquan Brickhouse had 11 points and Andre Armstrong added 10.
Ohio Valley (1-6) was 40.5 percent on 15-of-37 3-point shooting but had 25 turnovers. The Fighting Scots struggled with foul trouble and Coppin State made 27 of 41 free throw attempts.
David Sinickas led Ohio Valley with 19 points. He took all his field goal attempts from beyond the arc and finished 6 of 9. Sequan Lawrence scored 18 points and Gerald McDonald had 10.
