St. Francis (NY) escapes Oakland 68-62

CONWAY, S.C. (AP)—Jalen Cannon scored 22 points as St. Francis (N.Y.) beat Oakland 68-62 in the EA Sports Maui on the Mainland Classic Sunday.

Cannon had four points in the final 33 seconds to help seal the win for St. Francis (3-3).

Travis Bader led Oakland (0-6) with 30 points, but was just 6-of-15 from 3-point range. Corey Petros added 13 for the Grizzlies. Oakland had just 20 points in the first half, but responded with 42 in the second.

Oakland opened the second half on a 7-0 run to cut their deficit to two. Later, Mitch Baenziger’s 3-pointer tied the game at 60 with 1:41 to play. Bader’s jumper tied it at 56, but St. Francis’ Brent Jones made two free throws with nine seconds left.

Oakland ends its seven-game road trip on Tuesday when it plays Western Michigan. Oakland went 0-7 in 2004, getting its first win on Dec. 20th.
