Saddler scores 19, Delaware downs Hofstra 57-56

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP)—Devon Saddler scored 19 points as Delaware held on to beat Hofstra 57-56 Wednesday night, ensuring the Blue Hens the second seed in the Colonial Athletic Association tournament.

Delaware (17-13, 12-5) has won nine of 11, and each of its past six games have been decided by two or fewer points—the longest such streak in program history.

The Blue Hens have never entered the CAA tournament higher than the fifth seed.

David Imes’ 3-pointer pulled Hofstra (7-23, 4-13) within 55-53 with 43 seconds left. Delaware held the ball until Saddler’s missed jumper with 8 seconds remaining. The Blue Hens’ Kyle Anderson grabbed the rebound and tipped it in for a 57-53 lead with 5 seconds showing, and Stevie Mejia’s trey for Hofstra at 0:02 wasn’t enough.

Jarvis Threatt added 12 points for Delaware and Anderson finished with 10.

Moussa Kone paced Hofstra with a career-high 18 points.
