SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP)—Anthony Downing, Marcus Marshall and Christian Kirk scored 15 points each to lead Missouri State to an 82-49 victory against Malone University in a Hoops for Hope Classic game on Wednesday night.
Keith Pickens had six points and 10 rebounds for the Bears (2-2).
Cory Veldhuizen scored 13 points and David Goodwater 10 for Division II Malone (2-1).
Downing had four 3-pointers, and Marshall was 3 for 3 from behind the arc.
Missouri State took advantage of Malone’s cold shooting at the start to build a 20-5 lead. The Pioneers missed their first 11 attempts from the floor before getting a basket by Zach Bates with 9:44 remaining in the first half.
Missouri State was up 38-22 at the break and led by 36 in the second half.
The Hoops for Hope Classic moves to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where Missouri State plays South Carolina on Saturday.
