Saturday, Feb 25, 2012

CONWAY, Ark. (AP)—LaQuentin Miles scored 10 points and had the game-winning three-point play with 12 seconds left as Central Arkansas beat Southeastern Louisiana 64-63 on Saturday.

Miles drove for the tying basket and was fouled by DeShawn Patterson, and made the free throw for the Bears (8-19, 3-11 Southland Conference).

The Lions (10-17, 3-11) ran the clock down for a last shot, but Antonnio Benton’s jumper went off the rim, ending Central Arkansas’ 10-game losing streak. Southeastern Louisiana was eliminated from contention for the conference tournament.

Oliver Wells had 10 points for the Bears.

Benton had 16 points and 12 rebounds and Daron Populist 12 points for Southeastern Louisiana, who suffered a second straight tough loss. The Lions were beaten by Texas State on a shot at the buzzer on Wednesday.

Populist’s basket put the Lions up by five points with a minute remaining, but Jarvis Garner made a 3-pointer to get Central Arkansas within 63-61 with 27 seconds left. Patterson missed two free-throw attempts at the other end, and the Bears took possession for Miles’ three-point play.
