Loyola Marymount downs Santa Clara 68-65

LOS ANGELES (AP)—Anthony Ireland had 17 points, six assists and five steals as Loyola Marymount closed out the regular season with a 68-65 victory over Santa Clara on Saturday night.

The Lions (19-11, 11-5 West Coast) will carry the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament and a bye into the quarterfinals on Friday. They’ll face the winner of Thursday’s first-round game between No. 6 San Diego and No. 7 Pepperdine.

Santa Clara (8-21, 0-16), seeded ninth, will face No. 8 Portland in a play-in game on Wednesday.

The Bulldogs got 22 points from Raymond Cowels III, 12 from Denzel Johnson and 11 from Evan Roquemore on Saturday.

Drew Viney added 14 points and nine rebounds for Loyola Marymount, and Jarred DuBois had 13 points off the bench. The Lions made 31 of 35 free throws, helping offset 33 percent shooting from the floor.
