Fairfield snaps Loyola (Md) streak, 68-51

BALTIMORE (AP)—Rakim Sanders scored 13 points, one of four Fairfield players in double figures, as the Stags won their fifth game in a row, defeating Loyola (Md.) 68-51 Sunday to end the Greyhounds’ seven-game winning streak.

After leading for most of a close first half and taking a 31-27 edge into the break, Fairfield (15-10, 10-4 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) broke the game open with a 12-0 run that produced a 51-31 lead with 11:05 remaining.

Fairfield shot 66.7 percent (14 of 21) in the second half to 17.4 percent (4 of 23) for the Greyhounds (19-6, 12-3). It was Loyola’s lowest shooting percentage in any half this season.

Derek Needham added 12 points and Ryan Olander 11 for Fairfield, and Maurice Barrow had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Robert Olson and Erik Etherly scored 17 apiece for Loyola, which began the day with a one-game conference lead over Iona.
