Valparaiso staves off Bowling Green 82-79

VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP)—Ryan Broekhoff scored 20 points and Jay Harris had 20 off the bench as Valparaiso improved to 5-0 at home with an 82-79 victory over Bowling Green on Saturday night.

Kevin Van Wijk had 16 points and Matt Kenney 12 for the Crusaders (7-3), who shot 54.3 percent (25 of 46). Van Wijk went 12 of 14 from the foul line, and his two free throws with 1:44 to go broke the game’s 10th and final tie for a 73-71 Valparaiso lead.

A’uston Calhoun scored 25 for the Falcons (5-4). Jordon Crawford added 22, Scott Thomas 14 and Dee Brown 10.

After Thomas’ 3-pointer pulled Bowling Green within 52-51 with 9:40 left, neither team led by more than two until Harris hit two free throws for a 76-72 Valparaiso edge with 35 seconds to go.

Valparaiso notched its first victory ever over Bowling Green, which is 8-1 in the series.
