Central Michigan cruises past UC Irvine 82-72Friday, Nov 25, 2011
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP)—Olivier Mbaigoto scored 23 points and pulled down nine rebounds, Trey Zeigler added 21 points, and Central Michigan kept UC Irvine winless Friday with an 82-72 win in a Great Alaska Shootout consolation game.
Derek Jackson had nine points and seven assists for the Chippewas (3-2), who scored the game’s first 12 points and never led by less than six after that.
Daman Starring led UC Irvine (0-5) with 20 points, and Michael Wilder had 19 points, including five 3-pointers, and 10 rebounds. The Anteaters were just 23 of 72 (32 percent) from the field.
The Chippewas rode their game-opening 12-0 run to a 43-31 halftime lead. In the second half, the Anteaters couldn’t get within single digits until the final minute.
Central Michigan will play Dartmouth on Saturday for fourth place in the tournament, while UC Irvine has a seventh-place game against Alaska-Anchorage.
