CONWAY, S.C. (AP)—Chris Gradnigo scored 17 points and Coastal Carolina controlled the inside game to rout Spalding 87-43 on Friday night and start a season 4-0 for the first time in 30 years.
The Chanticleers, coming off a 71-63 win over LSU, had a 43-22 rebounding advantage and outscored the NCAA Division III Golden Eagles 50-10 in the paint.
Coastal Carolina shot 68.1 percent from the field (32 of 47) while holding Spalding (0-2) to just 25 percent (12 of 48) in the schools’ first meeting.
Anthony Raffa added 13 points for his 13th straight double-figure game going back to last season as 10 of the 13 Chanticleers players scored and nine grabbed rebounds.
Coastal Carolina, which plays at Clemson on Tuesday, was 8-0 to start the 1981-82 season.
Jametrius Brasher scored 11 points to lead the Golden Eagles, who turned the ball over 20 times leading to 25 Coastal Carolina points.
