Iona routs Rider 83-59 in MAAC semifinal

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP)—Jermel Jenkins scored 20 points, including six 3-pointers, and Iona routed Rider 83-59 on Sunday in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament semifinal.

Iona (22-10) rolls into Monday’s conference championship game against Saint Peter’s on a nine-game winning streak.

The Gaels led from start to finish but did not break the game open until the final 10 minutes. Leading by nine with 9:33 to play, Iona went on an 18-3 run to finish the game.

Dwight Rashon added 19 points and Mike Glover had 12 for the Gaels, who have held three of their past five opponents to fewer than 60 points.

Jenkins (6 of 10) and Rashon (5 of 7) helped the Gaels shoot 50 percent (14 of 28) from 3-point range. Rider hit only 7 of 21 shots from beyond the arc.

Novar Gadson scored 19 points and Justin Robinson had 16 for Rider (23-10), which saw its six-game winning streak snapped.
