Vermont holds off Binghamton 57-46 in AEC tourney

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP)—Evan Fjeld scored 14 points to lead a sluggish Vermont team to a 57-46 win over Binghamton on Saturday in the quarterfinals of the America East Conference tournament.

The top-seeded Catamounts (23-7) led 24-23 at halftime after holding the Bearcats (8-23) to 6-of-22 shooting from the field (27.3 percent) in the first half.

Robert Mansell hit a layup with 16:56 remaining to give Binghamton a 30-27 advantage, but Vermont went on a 13-3 run to pull ahead 40-33 with just over 12 minutes left to play.

Moussa Camara hit a 3-pointer with 3:42 left to end a 5:01 field-goal drought for the Bearcats, but they still trailed 52-44. Camara finished with 15 points and Greer Wright added 14 for Binghamton, which ended 14 of 53 from the field (26.4 percent).

Bran Voelkel added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Catamounts, who will face Stony Brook (14-16) on Sunday in the semifinals.
