Northern Iowa defeats Iowa State 60-54

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP)—Anthony James, Jake Koch and Johnny Moran each scored 12 points and Northern Iowa beat Iowa State 60-54 Wednesday night, handing the Cyclones their first loss of the season.

Kwadzo Ahelegbe and Lucas O’Rear added 10 points for the Panthers (3-2), who extended their home winning streak to 18 games and beat Iowa State for the fourth time in five tries.

Diante Garrett had 17 points for the Cyclones (6-1), who were held 30 points below their season average.

Iowa State’s Jake Anderson drilled a 3 from the corner with 1:18 left to tie the game at 52. Koch answered with a pull-up jumper to put the Panthers ahead by two with 53 seconds left, and Garrett was called for traveling on a drive to the basket.

Garrett missed a 3 after a pair of free throws by Kwadzo Ahelegbe, and Koch hit a pair from the line to seal the win.
